Magnesium calcium phosphate bone cement
Mineral calcium phosphat bone cements (CPC) are outstanding materials for filling bone defects due to their high biocompatibility to the natural bone. However, mineral bone cements currently available on the market can not be use in load bearing defects lacking a suitable mechanical strength.
Our developments of magnesium containing calcium phosphate bone cements (MgCPC) show largely improved mechanical strength and are therefore qualified to be applied in medical indications predominantly treated with PMMA-based bone cements so far.
Furthermore, MgCPCs are resorbable, show high bioactivity and excellent handling properties and can be used for other fields of application as well. Recently, Soltmann et. al achieved a stable biocatalitc composite material for bioremediation embedding microorganisms into InnoTERE's magnesium phosphate cement (Adv Eng Mater 13 (2011) B25-B31).
